My first post is about sports celebrities. I hope you enjoy it.
Sports celebrities have become some of the biggest earners in the entertainment industry these days. While the salaries and contracts vary greatly from player to player the high end stars are making unbelievable amounts of money for their talents as athletes.
In the United States, professional athletes even have work unions that protect their interests and organize strikes when they are unhappy with contract negotiations or other issues. Unionized millionaires, pretty amusing stuff. In every sports league there are super stars who get elevated to a status equal to any of the top celebrities in Hollywood or on television. Some for their good looks like Michelle Wei in golf or Anna Kournikova who plays tennis and others for their amazing talent or charisma like mega star basketball player & businessman Michael Jordan or Alex Rodriguez of the New York Yankees. Of course depending on the popularity of each sport the athlete's popularity may be limited to the fans who follow that particular sport such as in NASCAR racing.
On the flip side some sports may have more of a global following which will in turn make the athletes much more widely known and recognizable even to people who don't follow that particular sport on a regular basis. Some of the better known athletic teams in the United States are the Yankees in baseball, the Steelers or Dallas Cowboys in football and The Lakers in basketball. These teams have counted dozens of sports icons and celebrities amongst their ranks through the years who have carried on and elevated the legacy of each sports franchise.
Individuals have also been very good at making names for themselves in solo sports throughout the years. Some of them, for example Tiger woods, are even instantly recognized and referred to simply by his first name and people know exactly who is being talked about.
Isn't that right Tiger?
